Sagar Defence Pune Plant: Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd. opened a new plant in Pune, India, marking a significant milestone in India’s growing sea technology sector. The company will make Uncrewed Surface Vehicles, also called USVs, inside this plant. These special sea machines can move on the water without any person inside them.
This new work also helps the partnership between Sagar Defence and Liquid Robotics, a Boeing company. Both sides announced this partnership earlier this year, and now they plan to build advanced maritime systems together.
New USVs for Stronger Undersea Awareness
The new plant will make USVs that help India and its partners understand what is happening under the sea. The machines will support the Wave Glider platform and make undersea domain awareness stronger by using local production. The project also becomes a big step in the US-India Major Defence Partnership framework. This cooperation helps both countries create and produce new defence tools, grow industry links, and build production power across the Indo-Pacific region, reported Force India.
Capt. Nikunj Parashar, the founder of Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd, shared his excitement during the plant opening.
He said, “This plant opening is a proud milestone for Sagar Defence and for India’s defence ecosystem. It reflects our commitment to Make in India by building advanced maritime capability locally, and by partnering with Liquid Robotics, we are positioning India as a hub for next-generation maritime innovation.”
Salil Gupte, the president of Boeing India and South Asia, also explained how this new facility shows the growing bond between India and the United States. He said, “As India and the United States deepen their defence partnership, this facility shows how intent becomes reality. It advances the US-India Major Defence Partnership framework and supports Make in India by building capability locally, while co-developing systems that strengthen bilateral collaboration in defence technology.”
Partnership for Future Sea Solutions
Liquid Robotics’ CEO, Shane Goodenough, also discussed the importance of this new plant for their team’s collaboration. He said, “The inauguration of the plant is a critical step in our collaboration with Sagar Defence. Building and sustaining the Wave Glider platform locally will strengthen undersea domain awareness and speed up deployment. Together, we’re combining Liquid Robotics’ product expertise with Sagar’s innovation to deliver operational capability.”
