Strange Lights Seen Over Tehran: Bright, colourful lights seen in the night sky over Tehran have caught a lot of attention online. Videos shared on social media show several lights moving across the dark sky. Some posts claim the sighting happened near the Azadegan Expressway in Tehran on September 20. However, the original recording details haven’t been fully made public.
The footage has led to many guesses about what was flying over the Iranian capital. Some people think it could be a drone or a group of drones. Others believe it may simply be an aeroplane seen from far away. There have also been claims that it could be a UFO. In this case, UFO only means an object that hasn’t been identified. It doesn’t prove that the object came from outside Earth.

The strange movement of the lights has made drones one of the main theories online. Some viewers have suggested that several drones may have been flying together. Another possibility is a normal aircraft. Lights on planes can look very different when filmed at night, especially with phone cameras, digital zoom and focus problems. Bright lights can turn into blurry spots and may look much closer or stranger than they really are.
An LED-lit kite has also been suggested. Reports and online discussions have pointed to this possibility because of the colourful lights and the way the object appears to move or hover. Still, the available footage doesn’t provide enough evidence to prove any of these explanations.
The videos have also led to strong reactions from viewers. One user wrote, “Every blurry night clip is a UFO now. Why The Tehran Sighting is Getting Attention
The timing has made the videos even more interesting. A similar unidentified object was reported over Tehran in September 1976, when Iranian F-4 fighter jets were reportedly sent to investigate it. The current videos appeared almost 50 years later, but there’s no evidence connecting the two incidents.
The new footage comes as tensions between Iran and the US and its allies remain high. On September 20, Iran warned that a major new attack would bring sustained retaliation against US bases and interests. The US State Department also warned of possible escalation in the region along with flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel problems.
