ICEYE Satellite Manufacturing In India: ICEYE, a space intelligence company, is getting ready to open its first production facility in India within the next year. The new plant will make small satellites for defence, surveillance, and environmental monitoring. The report is dated May 17, 2026, and it says the company wants this unit to become a big part of its work in the Asia-Pacific region. ICEYE already says it runs the world’s largest and most advanced SAR satellite constellation, which helps it watch changes on Earth more closely.

Why India is Important to the company
Rafal Modrzewski, ICEYE’s CEO and co-founder, said India fits well with what the company does. He said the world is seeing more defence spending and more use of space tools, and India is part of that trend. He also said countries are now paying more attention to space because recent conflicts have shown how important space-based intelligence can be. ICEYE says its radar satellites can keep monitoring places even in cloud cover and at night.
“There is a strong alignment between what India needs and what we offer. Globally, we are seeing two key trends: increasing defence spending and rapid adoption of space-based capabilities,” Modrzewski told PTI in an interview. “India reflects both these trends. Countries are learning from recent conflicts that space is the next frontier for intelligence and defence. We specialise in defence and intelligence, so naturally, we see India as an important market for our solutions,” he said.
Modrzewski said the amount will likely be “significant,” and he described it as being in the tens of millions of dollars. The company plans to make around 10 satellites in the first year. After that, it wants to raise output to 20 to 40 satellites every year. ICEYE also said it is currently making about 50 satellites a year and wants that number to go beyond 100 by 2028.
A hub for Asia-Pacific
ICEYE wants the Indian unit to do more than just serve India. Modrzewski said it could become the company’s main factory hub for the Asia-Pacific region, while Europe and the United States will remain important too. The company said satellites made in India will go to global customers, not only local ones.
“Yes, it is fair to say that India could become our Asia-Pacific hub, alongside Europe and the United States,” Modrzewski said. He also said, “Investment will be significant, likely in the range of tens of millions of dollars, though exact numbers are still being finalised,” and “Satellites manufactured in India will serve global markets, while also supporting local demand. We are not making our India presence dependent solely on government orders. We are committed to building here regardless of the order book,” Modrzewski said.

Partners
ICEYE said it already has customers in India and is talking with more possible buyers, including government groups. The company said it has not faced any major problem so far. It is also speaking with the right government departments about its plan. Along with that, ICEYE is looking at possible work with ISRO, private launch firms, electronics makers, technology partners, and defence companies that work with drones and integrated systems. The company said it expects the supply chain and the factory setup in India to come together in the next six to 12 months.
“We already have customers in India through our existing operations. We are in active discussions with both existing and potential customers, including government stakeholders, but cannot disclose details at this stage,” he said. Modrzewski also said, “We are an established company and can operate independently. However, we value open dialogue and collaboration with the government, especially where there is alignment in capabilities and priorities. So far, we have not encountered any major challenges,” he said.
