HAL Confirms Five Tejas Mk1A Fighters Ready as Engine Supply Improves

HAL says five Tejas Mk1A fighter jets are fully ready for delivery, while nine more aircraft will be prepared soon once GE supplies the remaining engines.

HAL Tejas Mk1A Fighters: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd has shared a clear update about the delivery of the Tejas Mk1A fighter jets to the Indian Air Force. The company said that five aircraft are completely ready and meet all the promised features. These jets are built as per the final agreement and can be handed over to the Air Force.

In its statement, HAL said it wanted to explain the current situation to everyone involved. The company added, “An additional nine aircraft have already been built and flown. Upon receipt of engines from GE, these aircraft will be made ready for delivery.” This means more jets are almost ready but are waiting for engines.

Engine Supply and Talks with the Air Force

HAL also said it has already received five engines from GE. The company shared that the engine supply situation is improving. It said the “supply position from GE is positive, and the future delivery outlook aligns with HAL’s delivery plans.” HAL added that all earlier design and technical issues are being fixed on time.

The company is also in talks with the Indian Air Force to deliver the planes as soon as possible. HAL said it is confident of meeting its targets for the current financial year.

Tejas Mk1A Importance in India

This update comes at a time when reports say the Air Force may review the Tejas Mk1A project in May before taking the jets. The IAF needs more fighter planes and has ordered 180 aircraft from HAL.

Earlier, the Defence Ministry said the Tejas Mk1A will have over 64% Indian-made parts. It also said, “The integration of advanced indigenously developed systems such as the UTTAM Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, Swayam Raksha Kavach, and control surface actuators will further strengthen the Aatmanirbharta initiatives.”
