Indian Navy Project-77: India is making its sea defence stronger by opening a big new dry dock in Visakhapatnam. This modern dock will help build powerful nuclear submarines for the Indian Navy. It will be used to make Project-77 nuclear attack submarines and also the new S5 nuclear missile submarines. These submarines are very important for protecting India in the deep sea and far oceans.
The dry dock became ready for work in 2025. It is large enough to build more than one submarine at the same time which save time and avoid delays. By having one place for building many submarines, India can grow its navy faster and better.

Project-77 Submarines
“Project-77” is the name given to India’s future nuclear-powered attack submarines. These submarines will be very big and will weigh around 10,000 tonnes. They will use nuclear reactors, so they can stay underwater for a very long time without stopping.
These submarines are for tracking enemy submarines. They can also protect aircraft carrier groups and carry out attack missions if needed. This is different from the S5 submarines, which are built to carry nuclear missiles and act as India’s sea-based nuclear shield. The S5 submarines are even larger and weigh more than 13,000 tonnes.

Visakhapatnam Dry Dock
The new dry dock allows India to build both Project-77 and S5 submarines side by side. This is very important for planning the future of the navy. It removes old problems where there was not enough space or facilities to build big submarines. Now India can grow both its defence power and attack strength at the same time.
This project also supports India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat goal. The submarines are being built with help from Indian groups like the Warship Design Bureau, DRDO, BARC, and shipbuilders in India. Private companies such as Larsen & Toubro are also helping with important work.
