INS Trikand India-Mauritius: Indian Navy ship INS Trikand finished its visit to Port Louis in Mauritius on March 13. The visit was important because it helped India and Mauritius grow closer in sea and security work. During the trip, the ship joined the 58th Mauritius National Day celebrations on March 12. The event took place at Champ de Mars in Port Louis.

The Indian Navy team marched in the parade. A naval band also performed, and the ship’s helicopter joined the flypast. Captain Sachin Kulkarni, who is the Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, also met important people during the visit. He called on Rampersad Sooroojebally and Anurag Srivastava. These meetings showed that India and Mauritius are not only friendly countries, but also partners in safety and diplomacy.
Training, and Culture
The ship also held a cultural evening on board. Many senior ministers and officials from Mauritius came for the event. Mahend Gungapersad attended as the Chief Guest. His presence showed the warm bond between the people of both countries. This part of the visit was more about friendship and shared culture, and it added a personal touch to the official programme.
INS Trikand did many useful activities during the port call too. The crew gave training to personnel from the Mauritius National Coast Guard. The sessions taught them important things like harbour watchkeeping, sea watchkeeping, firefighting, and damage control. On March 12, the ship was also opened to visitors.
Over 500 people visited the ship. There were sports games, cultural events, and friendly programmes. These helped both sides connect better. Before leaving, INS Trikand did a PASSEX and joint patrol with CGS Valiant, then sailed for its next mission.
Officials said this visit fits with India’s “MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions” and shows the strong maritime link between India and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean region.

INSV Kaundinya Returns
Earlier in March, another Indian naval vessel also made news. The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel INSV Kaundinya returned to Mumbai Harbour after finishing its first overseas trip to Oman.
The vessel was flagged in by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. This marked the end of a historic voyage across the Arabian Sea and celebrated the old sea connection between India and Oman. Official statements described the return as a reminder of India’s rich maritime past and the long friendship shared by the two countries.
