INS Tarkash Seychelles Coast Guard: Indian Naval Ship Tarkash, a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, has arrived in Port Victoria, Seychelles during its ongoing deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region. The ship also escorted the Seychelles Coast Guard Ship Zoroaster back home after the vessel finished a major refit at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata. This visit is being seen as a sign of the long and close maritime link between India and Seychelles.
The Indian Navy said the transit shows how both sides work together in ship support, sea safety and daily maritime help. It also shows that India can support partner countries not only with ships at sea, but also with repair, supply and service support for their naval and coast guard vessels.

Exclusive Economic Zone
During the visit, Captain Rohit Mishra and his team met Barry Faure, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, and gave an update on their mission in Seychelles. Captain Mishra said the ship’s work includes helping Seychelles watch over its Exclusive Economic Zone, with a strong focus on stopping illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. The meeting also touched on the Golden Jubilee celebrations on June 28, where an Indian Navy team will take part.
India will also hand over critical spares and important stores to the Seychelles government. That support is meant to help the island nation’s maritime forces stay ready and work better at sea. The Indian Navy said the port call is meant to build stronger friendship, more cooperation and deeper ties between the two countries.

The visit was not only about naval work. The crew also went to the Plaisance Home of the Elderly. There, they checked on the residents’ health and donated daily-use items. The crew described this kind of visit as a way to build people-to-people bonds. They also said they would like to extend the same help to people in Praslin and La Digue during future visits.
The full trip also underlines the deeper defence and maritime partnership between New Delhi and Victoria. It covers shipbuilding, repair, maintenance and operational support. In simple terms, this means both countries are working together not just for one visit, but in a long-running way to face common sea problems in the Indian Ocean Region.
