Swan Defence: Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd has achieved a big success by finishing the refit of the Indian Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel, SAJAG, earlier than planned. The refit was supposed to take place from November 15, 2024, to March 15, 2025, but the company completed it ahead of schedule. After a successful sea trial, the vessel is now ready for service. This achievement shows Swan Defence’s skill in repairing and maintaining ships efficiently.

Vivek Merchant, Director of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd, said, “The industry is changing with more government investments in shipbuilding and defence infrastructure. We are ready to play an important role in this change” reported ET, he further added that the company is focusing on modernisation and self-reliance

He said, “with a strategic focus on modernization and self-reliance, we are committed to expanding our capabilities beyond ship repairs and soon resuming full-scale shipbuilding operations to shape the future of the maritime sector.”

The company, which was earlier known as Reliance Naval and Engineering Ltd (RNEL), said the dry docking and refit of SAJAG is a major step in reviving its shipyard. Earlier, the company successfully refitted the Indian Coast Guard’s fast patrol vessel, Raj Ratan. This was the first vessel to be refurbished under Swan Defence’s management.

Swan Defence came under the control of Swan Energy in January last year after an insolvency resolution process. For the SAJAG refit, the company worked with its official repair partner, Krasny Defence Technologies Ltd. The refit took three months, and Swan Defence provided all the necessary services, including berthing, dry docking, undocking, and other important yard operations. This shows the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime defence capabilities.
