DRDO’s Indigenous MCPS: Military Combat Parachute System or MCPS made by DRDO has done a combat freefall jump from a very high altitude of 32,000 feet. The test jump was done by trained Indian Air Force paratroopers who showed how well the new system works. This was a huge test that proved the parachute is safe strong and ready for use in real missions. With this achievement the MCPS has now become the only parachute system used by the Indian Armed Forces that can work above 25,000 feet, reported The statesman.
China’s ‘Golden Dome’: China develops global missile defence system rivaling US
Made in India With Advanced Technology
The MCPS was made by two DRDO labs called Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment in Agra and Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory in Bengaluru.
This system is built to work with India’s own navigation satellite system called NavIC which was made by ISRO. Because of this the system can work freely during missions without worrying about other countries blocking or disturbing it. The Defence Ministry said that this makes the MCPS more secure and gives India full control during war or emergencies.
A statement from the Ministry of Defence said the system “incorporates several enhanced tactical features including a lower rate of descent and superior steering capabilities, enabling paratroopers to safely exit aircraft, deploy parachutes at predetermined altitudes, navigate accurately, and land at designated zones.” These special features make it easy for soldiers to jump from planes at very high altitudes and still land safely too
Step Towards Self-Reliance
The Defence Ministry said that the success of this test will help India use more home-built parachute systems in the future.. It will also stop India from depending on foreign suppliers especially during war times when getting help from other nations can be risky. The statement said this success “will also reduce dependency on other nations for its serviceability during times of conflict and war.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the scientists and soldiers for this big success. He called it a proud moment for India. He said on X, “Proud moment for the nation! The indigenously developed Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) by @DRDO_India has achieved a combat freefall jump from 32,000 ft. A remarkable milestone towards self-reliance in critical defence technologies.”
