Ajit Doval Reappointed as National Security Advisor for Third Term

Ajit Doval, a former IPS officer, has been reappointed as National Security Advisor for a third term, becoming the first NSA to hold the position for three consecutive terms, under Modi 3.0.

Ajit Doval National Security Advisor: The Center has reappointed Ajit Doval, a former IPS officer, to the position of National Security Advisor for a third term. This makes him the first NSA to hold the important position for three terms in a row.

As the longest-serving National Security Advisor (NSA), Doval took up the role shortly after PM Modi took office in May 2014 and will keep it under Modi 3.0. Doval, an IPS officer from the 1968 batch, is well-known for his expertise in nuclear matters and counterterrorism. Doval was the IB’s operational chief in Punjab.

“The Cabinet has accepted the appointment of Shri Ajit Doval, lPS (retired), as National Security Adviser, effective June 10, 2024, as confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

His appointment will run concurrently with the prime minister’s term or until new directives are given, whichever comes first. According to Economic Times, he would be given the Cabinet Minister position in the Table of Precedence for the duration of his term in office, according to the official notification.

Doval is thought to have been instrumental in the surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Uri terror assault during his first term. According to sources, he has also received a lot of praise for his work in the field of national security, particularly for his part in the Balakot airstrike that followed the Pulwama terror attack.

One of the principal Indian negotiators with the hijackers of Indian Airlines flight IC-814, which was flown to Kandahar in 1999, was Doval. He spent more than 33 years with the IB, serving in a variety of capacities and working in the Northeast, Jammu Kashmir, and Punjab. He also served time in the United Kingdom.

The cabinet’s appointments committee not only reappointed Doval but also PK Mishra to the position of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The appointment of Dr. PK Mishra, IAS (Retired), as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, effective June 10, 2024, has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The Government of India said in a letter that “his appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi has authorized the employment of Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor, two IAS officers, as advisors.
