G7 Summit: In the southern Italian area of Apulia, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited for the Friday outreach session, leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations began their three-day summit on global concerns on Thursday.

The leaders of the G7 countries—the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, and Japan—are meeting with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni at the luxurious resort of Borgo Egnazia on the Adriatic coast. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is expected to be the main topic of conversation.

India has said again that talks and negotiation are the best way to solve the problem. However, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is leading calls for strong action to help Ukraine in any way possible.

Sunak said in a statement made before the summit talks that we need to be determined and creative in our efforts to protect Ukraine and stop Putin’s illegal war at this very important time.

As we have done from the beginning, the UK is still leading the international response. If we want to put a stop to this illegitimate war, we have to go from “as long as it takes” to “whatever it takes.”

According to Business standard Sunak will lay the groundwork for longer-term economic and social recovery and reconstruction, as well as support Ukraine’s immediate humanitarian, energy, and stabilization needs. Downing Street reports that Sunak will announce up to GBP 242 million in bilateral assistance to Ukraine.

Working with partners to find a way to leverage Russia’s immobilized assets to support Ukraine will be the prime minister’s goal during the summit, according to a Downing Street statement.

A statement from Downing Street said that the prime minister’s goal at the meeting will be to work with partners to find a way to use Russia’s frozen assets to help Ukraine.

At his pre-visit media meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra talked about Modi’s statement in September 2022 that “we are not living in a time of war.” This was said while a lot was going on.

We have always been at the forefront of talk about not just the conflict, the need for dialogue and diplomacy but also the way the conflict is impacting the priorities and interests of developing countries, he said.

He continued, “Humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and the Global South affected by conflict is something we have always been at the forefront of offering wherever we can to alleviate challenges faced by the Global South because of the conflict.”

On the fringes of the summit, Modi will take part in the outreach session alongside other nations, and the Foreign Secretary stated that India will keep presenting its viewpoint to global leaders.

The topics of discussion will centre on energy, Africa, the Mediterranean, and artificial intelligence (AI).
In keeping with summit tradition, leaders from eleven developing nations in Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region have been invited to attend, in addition to India, which is now hosting the summit.

As President of the Council of Ministers, Italian PM Meloni welcomed the G7 leaders and expressed his eagerness to highlight the many attractions of the Apulia region.

Being the first pope to participate in a G7, Pope Francis is expected to speak at the summit on Friday about the need for moral AI and peace initiatives, according to Italy’s ANSA news agency.

Top Italian chef Massimo Bottura, who has received seven Michelin stars, is preparing the summit’s cuisine.

I want to express my gratitude to Chef Bottura for accepting our invitation and for showcasing Italian cuisine and wine via his artwork. We invited him because of his ability to blend ethics and aesthetics, added Meloni, in addition to the fact that he is one of the most well-known global ambassadors of Italian cuisine.
