Indian Army MAITREE: The Indian Army team left yesterday for the 13th rendition of Exercise MAITREE, a combined military drill including Thailand. From July 1st to July 15th, 2024, the drill is scheduled to take place in Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak Province, Thailand. September 2019 saw the previous iteration take place in Umroi, Meghalaya.

The 76-strong contingent of the Indian Army is made up of members of various regiments as well as members of the LADAKH SCOUTS. Comparably, the 76 members of the Royal Thailand Army contingent are primarily from the 1st Battalion, 14 Infantry Regiment of the 4th Division.

About the Exercise

As per Financial Express, Exercise MAITREE aims to improve military cooperation between Thailand and India. Following Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, it emphasizes counterinsurgency activities in metropolitan and forest settings as well as joint counterterrorism. Important events will be joint planning, tactical drills, and physical fitness courses.

A variety of activities will be covered in tactical drills throughout the exercise. A Joint Operation Center, an Intelligence and Surveillance Center, drone deployment and counter-drone technologies, landing site security, and small team insertion and extraction are a few of these.

Special heliborne operations, search and cordon procedures, room intervention exercises, and the demolition of unauthorized buildings will also be rehearsed.

Exercise MAITREE will facilitate the exchange of best practices for joint operations tactics, techniques, and procedures. It seeks to improve communication between the soldiers of the two countries and promote brotherhood, thus fortifying the military relations between Thailand and India.
