NATO New Kyiv Post: NATO nations are preparing long-term assistance policies for Ukraine in anticipation of a potential Trump win in the next US presidential election.

The preparation takes place against the backdrop of growing right-wing power in Europe, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

To manage military logistics in Ukraine, NATO intends to dispatch a senior civilian officer.

A new command centre is also supposed to be created in Wiesbaden, Germany, to supervise the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) and the transfer of military hardware and supplies.

According to WSJ sources, the mission—known as “NATO – Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine”—will involve approximately 700 military men from the US and other NATO nations.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, this unit will handle previously occupied missions by the US military..

Ivo Daalder, the current head of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and a former US ambassador to NATO, stated that the alliance will now be in charge of helping Ukraine.

“These efforts will continue even if the US reduces or halts its support,” Daalder said.

Though these events had been scheduled for some months, their urgency grew after President Joe Biden’s poor performance during a televised debate with Donald Trump.

It is expected that more support initiatives will be presented during the next NATO summit, scheduled for Washington from July 9–11.

US Officials Consider Allowing Military Contractors to Deploy in Ukraine

The heated argument between the present president and Trump on June 27 resulted in some of his supporters speculating that he might drop out of the contest. Biden’s team has said, however, that he will keep running.

Reuters disclosed before the debate that two of Donald Trump’s closest advisers had developed a plan to halt Russia’s war in Ukraine should he be elected president.

According to the plan, Ukraine will only be given further US armaments if it agrees to hold peace negotiations with Russia, ostensibly in complete accordance with Putin’s requests.

In the meantime, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, one of Trump’s national security advisors, stated in an interview that the US would alert Moscow to the fact that defying negotiations would result in greater US backing for Ukraine.

If elected president, Trump has frequently pledged to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine in less than a day.
