Emirates Boeing Jets: The Dubai Air Show opened on Monday with big news from Emirates Airlines. The company said it will buy 65 Boeing 777-9 planes in a deal worth $38 billion. This new order shows how much Emirates wants to grow its long trips around the world. More people keep flying through Dubai, and the airline wants to stay ahead. With this order, Emirates now plans to have 270 Boeing 777-9 jets in total. This keeps Emirates as Boeing’s biggest customer for this large airplane, even though the aircraft has faced delays.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who is the chairman and CEO of Emirates, spoke proudly about the purchase. He said the deal shows strong trust in their long teamwork with Boeing and GE. He also said the order “supports hundreds of thousands of high-value jobs in manufacturing” and that it strengthens the airline’s 40-year relationship with both companies. Emirates already flies the biggest fleet of Boeing 777 planes in the world, and all of them use GE engines.

The Sheikh Ahmed had also said that he believes Emirates will stay the top 777 airline for a long time. He explained that airlines must buy bigger planes because more people want to travel around the world. He expects the first Boeing 777-9 to arrive in the second quarter of 2027 and he mentioned that date while looking straight at the Boeing team.

More Plane Orders from Other Airlines

The Air Show also brought more orders for Boeing and other plane makers. Ethiopian Airlines said it will buy 11 Boeing 737-8 MAX planes. Air Côte d’Ivoire ordered four Embraer E175 jets. Air Senegal finished its order for nine Boeing 787-8 MAX aircraft.

Dubai is seeing very high travel numbers right now. Emirates earned $5.2 billion in profit last year. Dubai International Airport remains the world’s busiest airport for international travelers. At the last Dubai Air Show, Emirates surprised everyone with a $52 billion Boeing order. FlyDubai which is part of the same airline group, may also buy more single-aisle planes as it grows bigger. The airline already placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners not long ago.

There is new interest in flying taxis, and many countries brought their defense technology. Russia’s Rosoboronexport returned with a large display. It showed the Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter and the Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system.

These displays got a lot of attention because of the tense security situation in the Middle East. UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan started his tour at the Russian area. He watched a video of a Russian drone strike and looked inside the cockpit of the Su-57. US Air Force pilots from the 55th Fighter Squadron also studied the Russian fighter jet.
