Pentagon Orders 100+ Kymeta Osprey u8 Terminals for Multi-Orbit Connectivity

Kymeta has won a $20 million U.S. Defense Department order for more than 100 Osprey u8 satellite terminals, offering military users resilient GEO-LEO connectivity and secure communications.

Kymeta Osprey u8 Terminals: Kymeta has received a new $20 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense for more than 100 Osprey u8 satellite communication terminals. The deal also includes multi-orbit connectivity through Kymeta’s Broadband network. The company announced the order in September 2026.

The latest order is part of Kymeta’s growing work with the U.S. military. The company said it has now delivered more than $30 million worth of Osprey u8 terminals and connectivity services to the same unnamed DoD branch during 2026. The exact military branch hasn’t been named because of security reasons.

Osprey u8 Gives Troops more ways to Stay Connected

The Osprey u8 is a compact satellite terminal made for mobile and difficult operating conditions. It can connect through both geostationary orbit (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. This gives military users more than one way to get a connection when they need it.

Kymeta says the terminal can also move between transmission security (TRANSEC) and non-TRANSEC networks. The system comes in a ruggedized enclosure and uses a low size, weight and power, or SWaP, design. The company describes the Osprey u8 as battle-tested and built for always-on communication in hard conditions.

The terminal can use GEO, LEO and cellular connections. Kymeta’s U.S. DoD package combines these options with TRANSEC capability in one service. The company says this can help users keep communications running as mission conditions change.

Kymeta Moves Toward Automatic Network Switching

Kymeta’s military communications setup follows the PACE model. This means users can have a Primary connection, an Alternate option, a Contingency option and an Emergency method available when needed.

The company is also developing what it calls AutoPACE. Instead of asking users to manually change between different communication sources, the intelligent communications platform is designed to handle the switching automatically.

“This order is an affirmation from the military community that Kymeta can deliver on its promise to provide dependable connectivity for mission-critical operations,” said Manny Mora, CEO of Kymeta. “With our partners across national security, we are continuing to build steady and solid momentum as a trusted and valued partner.”

The new order adds to several other multimillion-dollar deals Kymeta has received from the U.S. government. Its Osprey u8 has also been selected for U.S. Army work involving next-generation command and control.
