Simran Bala CRPF Officer: A 26-year-old woman named Simran Bala from Jammu and Kashmir is about to do something very special. She is an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force, also called the CRPF. On January 26, during the Republic Day parade in Delhi, she will lead a full group of male CRPF soldiers at Kartavya Path. This has never happened before. Simran will be the first woman officer from her area to lead an all-male CRPF unit at this big national event.
People from her hometown are very proud of her. One young local said, “Just like Simran, we too want to don the uniform and serve Mother India.” Her achievement is giving courage and hope to many young girls who dream of joining the forces one day.
Simran Bala’s Journey
Simran comes from Nowshera town in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. She studied political science at the Government College for Women in J&K. In 2023, she cleared the tough UPSC Central Armed Police Forces exam. She got an All India Rank of 82 among 151 candidates, which is a big success.
After she cleared the exam, she went to the CRPF Academy in Gurugram for training. She performed very well there and was chosen as the best officer in training and also in public speaking. In April 2025, she joined the CRPF as an Assistant Commandant. Her first posting was with the Bastariya battalion in Chhattisgarh. She worked in tough places and helped in operations against Naxal groups.
Leading the Parade
Before she was picked for the Republic Day parade, senior CRPF officers watched Simran very carefully. They saw how she marched, how clearly she gave orders, how confident she looked, and how well she led others. After many practice rounds, they chose her to lead over 140 male CRPF soldiers in the parade. This kind of chance is very special and not given to many people.

Her sister Shail Bala shared her happiness and said, “It is a proud moment for us, entire Nowshera, J&K and the country… We are full of gratitude… Nowshera is a border area, and when someone reaches such a height, it makes us all happy.”
The CRPF is India’s biggest paramilitary force with over 3.25 lakh personnel. It works to protect the country by fighting terrorism, handling internal security problems, and carrying out anti-insurgency duties.
