India-UK Naval Cooperation: On Wednesday, the British High Commission in India announced a change in its defence team. Royal Marines Colonel Simon Westlake has completed his role as the UK Naval Advisor to India. During his time, he helped improve naval cooperation between India and the UK.
The Defence Section of the British High Commission posted a message on X to thank him. The post said, “As Royal Marines Col Simon Westlake’s chapter as UK Naval Advisor to India comes to a close, we salute his service and steady hand at the helm.” The message showed respect for his efforts and leadership during his role in India.

New UK Naval Advisor Takes Charge
The British High Commission also shared who will take over this important role next. Captain Daniel Peskett has been named as the new UK Naval Advisor to India. Officials believe he will help push forward naval teamwork and defence relations between the two countries.
The post also looked ahead with hope and positivity. It said, “With Captain Daniel Peskett taking over, we look ahead with confidence and renewed energy. Fair winds and following seas!”
Colonel Westlake had taken charge in January 2024. He replaced Captain Ian Lynn, who had studied at the Royal Navy’s Advanced Course and India’s National Defence College. Before coming to India, Colonel Westlake also served as Air Advisor and UK Defence Attaché to the Caribbean and Ghana.
India-UK Defence Plans
This change comes at a time when India and the UK are working closely on defence and security. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer supported the India-UK Vision 2035. This plan focuses on building a strong and long-term defence partnership.

Both countries agreed that better defence cooperation helps make the world safer and improves national security. They also decided to follow a 10-year Defence Industrial Roadmap. This plan will be watched by senior officials from both sides and will support joint work in defence production and technology.
India and the UK will work together on advanced defence areas like electric propulsion and jet engine core technology. They will also raise the level of their Foreign and Defence 2+2 talks to improve planning and coordination. Maritime teamwork will grow under the Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative, including setting up a Regional Maritime Security Centre of Excellence.
