India’s Air Defence Future Takes Shape With 300-kW Laser Weapons

India is moving past missile-only defence systems by developing powerful laser weapons. These next-generation tools aim to destroy drones and missiles faster and cheaper than traditional air defence systems.

DRDO Anti-Drone Systems, 300-kW Laser Weapons

300-kW Laser Weapons: Many big countries are now worried about attacks from the sky and space and due to this, they are spending huge money to protect themselves. The United States has announced a very large air and missile defence shield called the “Golden Dome”. This project may cost around $175 billion. Europe, Japan, and China are also working fast on new defence systems. These systems use modern technology to stop missiles, drones, and other flying threats before they cause damage.

Mission Sudarshan Chakra

India is also taking strong steps to protect its airspace. After Operation Sindoor, Indian defence leaders carefully checked how strong the country’s air defence really is. They found that India needs a powerful system that can work in many layers. It should not only stop enemy attacks but also hit back when needed. This thinking led to the launch of Mission Sudarshan Chakra.

This mission aims to build one big connected air and missile defence system for the whole country. India’s current systems like Akash-NG and S-400 are being connected to this plan. Reports also say India is looking at Russia’s S-500 system to prepare for future wars that may even reach space.

DRDO Builds Powerful Laser Defence System

Along with buying systems from other countries, India is focusing a lot on making its own defence tools. DRDO is developing a new laser-based weapon that can destroy targets in the air up to 20 kilometres away without using bullets or missiles. This system uses high-energy laser technology and is a big step forward for India.

DRDO is now working on a 300-kilowatt laser weapon. It is designed to hit targets accurately from long distances. Most of the important parts of this system have already been tested. Some parts are fully ready while others are being joined together. The laser design helps save energy and can be upgraded to even stronger power in the future

There is a special part that keeps the laser beam clean and steady so it can work smoothly for a long time. Another part cools the laser very fast so it can keep firing again and again. DRDO has also made a system to safely handle the strong heat and pressure when the laser is used.Scientists are still working to make the laser aim better during dust storms, smoke, or bad weather.
