A CRPF officer died and three others were injured after a lightning strike hit them during a heavy-rain anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.

Lightning Kills CRPF Officer

Lightning Kills CRPF Officer: A very sad incident happened in Jharkhand on Thursday night when a senior CRPF officer lost his life after a lightning bolt hit him. The officer was part of a team carrying out an important anti-Naxal operation deep inside the forest area of Keriburu village in West Singhbhum district. The area was seeing heavy rain at the time. The time of the incident was around 10:30 at night. Because of the bad weather and jungle terrain, the operation was already risky and the lightning just made it worse.

The officer who died was 46-year-old Maharabam Prabo Singh. He was second-in-command of the CRPF’s 26th battalion. He belonged to West Imphal district in Manipur. Singh was leading the team of CRPF jawans when the lightning struck and he died on the spot. He was known to be a brave officer who always led from the front.

His sudden death during such an important mission has shocked many, especially his team members and officials. Another officer, Assistant Commandant Subir Kumar Mandal, was walking with him when the lightning hit. He also got seriously injured, reports India TV.

Others Injured and Shifted for Treatment

After the incident, Mandal was rushed to a nearby hospital. Because of how serious his injuries were, the doctors sent him to Tata Main Hospital in Noamundi for better treatment. Along with him, two police personnel from Jharkhand were also hurt during the same lightning strike. Officials shared that both Singh and Mandal were leading their team in a tough area with rain pouring down and dangerous conditions all around them. They were out there to fight Naxals, and still doing their duty even when the weather was not good.

For the last few days, there has been heavy rainfall in the region which makes operations like this even more dangerous. The rain not only makes the paths slippery but also increases the chance of lightning in forest areas. Everyone who works in those conditions, like CRPF and police, knows how risky it gets, but they still move forward because it is their duty.

This is not the first time lightning has caused death in Jharkhand. Just last month, lightning killed four people in different places in Hazaribag district. Those incidents happened in Padma and Churchu blocks on April 10. In Padma, three people died while they were out grazing cattle. Two of them were cousins. Their names were Shiv Pujan Sao, Ajay Sao, and Suraj Kandu. They had gone under a small hut to stay safe from the rain when lightning struck and killed them right there.
