Assam Rifles and NIT Chumoukedima: The Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps has joined hands with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Chumoukedima in Nagaland to explore new ideas in drone technology. The meeting focused on how research and new technology can help security forces work better in the difficult terrain of the Northeast.
The interaction brought Assam Rifles personnel together with teachers, technical experts and students at the institute. They discussed how drones and unmanned aerial systems can be improved for real operational needs.
The engagement was also aimed at building a stronger link between the defence forces and educational institutions. An Assam Rifles post said the interaction was held to strengthen institutional cooperation in drone technology.

Student Drone Prototypes Reviewed
During the visit, Assam Rifles representatives looked at prototypes made by students as part of their technology and innovation work. The projects were discussed from an operational point of view to see where they could be useful for security forces.
A major part of the discussion was about the special challenges of the Northeast. The region has hilly areas, thick forests and other difficult locations where normal systems may not always be easy to use.
The discussions therefore focused on finding practical drone solutions that can work in such conditions. The teams also looked at ways student ideas could be improved further and developed into more useful systems.
The interaction gave students a chance to understand the kind of problems security personnel face on the ground. At the same time, the Assam Rifles got an opportunity to see new ideas coming from young researchers.

The Assam Rifles has already been involved in drone training and technology-related activities under the Spear Corps. Earlier this year, the force conducted a two-day drone exercise at its Drone Training Node in Jalukie to improve skills in unmanned aerial systems.
The latest engagement with NIT Chumoukedima could help create more opportunities for research, testing and knowledge sharing. It also highlights the growing role of colleges and technical institutes in developing indigenous defence technology for India’s security needs.
