INS Sunayna Arrives In Singapore to Strengthen Maritime Ties

INS Sunayna arrived in Singapore under the IOS SAGAR mission, boosting maritime ties. The visit included joint activities, training, and interactions, helping India and Singapore improve cooperation and teamwork at sea.

INS Sunayna in Singapore: Indian Naval Ship Sunayna reached Changi Naval Base in Singapore on April 26 as part of the Indian Ocean Ship SAGAR mission. This was its fourth port call under the MAHASAGAR vision. The ship is sailing with a mixed crew from 16 friendly foreign countries. Before Singapore, it had already stopped at Male, Phuket, and Jakarta.

Warm Welcome

The ship was welcomed warmly in Singapore, which showed the close maritime link between India and Singapore. India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr Shilpak Ambule, met the crew onboard and praised their work in improving maritime cooperation and working together better at sea. The Commanding Officer, Commander Siddharth Chaudhary, also laid a wreath at the Kranji War Memorial and spoke with Colonel Chuah Meng Soon of the Republic of Singapore Navy about stronger maritime ties.

During the visit, the ship was opened to visitors, including schoolchildren and social media influencers, so they could see life on a ship up close. On April 27, the IOS SAGAR crew and members of the Indian diaspora joined a run with the theme “One Ocean, One Mission”. The visit was also used for professional exchanges with the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Training and Cooperation

The schedule in Singapore also includes visits to navigation and damage control simulators, the Information Fusion Centre, and the Navy Museum. There will also be a joint yoga session, talks with a think tank onboard, and a formal deck reception. According to the Ministry of Defence, INS Sunayna is set to leave Singapore on April 29 and continue its mission in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Indian Navy says IOS SAGAR is part of India’s wider plan for regional maritime cooperation. The second edition of IOS SAGAR began on March 16, 2026, with personnel from 16 countries training and sailing together on an Indian naval ship. It fits into India’s SAGAR idea, which means “Security and Growth for All in the Region”, and the larger MAHASAGAR framework, which focuses on stronger partnerships, better teamwork, and shared maritime security across the region.
