IAF Bangalore Road Rage: An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer has been booked in a case of road rage that happened in Bengaluru on Monday morning. The officer, Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose, was traveling to the airport with his wife, who is also in the Air Force, when the incident took place. According to the police, the officer and a biker got into a fight in the middle of the road, which quickly turned physical.

The Indian Air Force released a statement on Tuesday saying, “An unfortunate incident, involving an Indian Air Force officer, took place in Bengaluru yesterday. The IAF is assisting the local authorities in investigating and following up the case to its lawful resolution.”

The police arrested a man named Vikas Kumar, who works as a team head at a call centre. He was taken into custody after the officer filed a complaint against him. Later, Vikas also filed a counter-complaint against Wing Commander Bose.

Based on Vikas’s complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the officer. The FIR includes charges such as attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt. The case was registered under sections 109, 115, 304, 324, 351 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Byappanahalli police station.

After the incident, Wing Commander Bose shared a video online. In the video, he is seen bleeding and says he was attacked by a group of Kannada-speaking people. He claimed they chased him while he was on his way to the airport. In the video, he appears shaken and said he was verbally abused as well.

What Vikas Kumar’s Mother Said

Speaking to News18, Vikas’s mother, Jyothi, shared her side of the story. She said that the IAF officer’s car hit the silencer of her son’s bike. She said, “The IAF officer’s car had brushed against the silencer of Vikas’s bike. As the IAF officer’s wife said something in Hindi, Vikas stopped to ask what she was saying. However, instead of asking the woman, Vikas confronted the IAF officer and asked him what his wife was saying.”

She also said, “This person, then, who should be a responsible person, pushed Vikas and his bike. As my son was getting up, the man hit him, brought up the Kannada angle, shared the video and filed a case against us.” She added, “It is clearly his (Wing Commander’s) fault. He bit my son’s hand, scratched his face, threw aside his vehicle and repeatedly kicked him. The CCTV footage is there for all to see, to check if we are right or wrong. How right is it for someone to come to our land, attack us and then place the blame on us?”

Eyewitnesses

Several people who saw the incident said the officer was the one who became violent. One person said, “He was hitting him like mad, had lost control completely.” Another witness added, “We tried to stop the fight, but the officer was out of control.” They also said, “We are not taking sides, but the IAF officer too should follow the law. He landed 15-20 blows, flung Vikas’s phone with full force as he attempted to record the incident.”

What the Police and CM Said

Police officials confirmed that both men had attacked each other and the investigation is ongoing. Deputy Commissioner of Police Devaraj D. confirmed that a case has been registered against the officer based on the counter complaint from Vikas Kumar.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also responded to the matter and said that the police must take action according to the law. He said, “I have asked officials to take action in accordance with law, whoever it is. Whether Wing Commander or anyone else, I have directed action in accordance with law.”

Police said that both complaints are being looked into and they are checking all evidence including video clips and CCTV footage. The incident has raised serious questions about public behavior and responsibility, especially when it involves people in uniform.
