Indian Army Defence Technology: Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla, who serves as the Master General Sustenance of the Indian Army, spoke strongly about how important it is for India to lead in technology. While speaking at an ‘Industry Interactive Session’ hosted by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said that India cannot just sit back and watch as the world moves ahead in the race for technology.
He made it clear that the country has no choice but to be at the front of this race. According to him, the Indian defence sector and the industry must work closely together to build a safe and powerful future for the country.
In his speech, Lt Gen Aujla told Indian defence companies that quality must come first, especially since the final user of their work is the armed forces. He reminded everyone that they are working for a national cause.

He said, “Global dynamics are changing, India is also changing and so are the armed forces. When we are changing and we have got boots on the ground, we want equal boots on ground on the shop floor as well. So, let us not walk separately, let us march together, let’s be comrades in capability development.” His message was clear: the Army and the industry should not work separately, but should become strong partners in creating the future.
Indian Army Defence Technology: Defence Industry Must Step Up
Lt Gen Aujla pointed out that the strength of the Indian military in the future will not only come from planning in boardrooms or decisions made in operation rooms. He explained that real power will also depend on what happens in R&D labs, how well testing goes, and how strong the defence industry becomes.
He said, “The race for technology or technological supremacy has begun and India can ill afford to be a mere spectator… or just a participant. You are the people who will have to… take the charge and come up trumps.” He urged everyone in the room to step up, do their best, and take responsibility for pushing the country forward. “So, it’s a clarion call for everyone,” he added.

He also explained how important it is to focus on revenue procurement and sustainability in this national effort. Lt Gen Aujla said, “And, we have to rise, we have to step up, we have to deliver for the national cause. And in that national cause, revenue procurement and sustainability is extremely, extremely important.”
After the main speech, Lt Gen Aujla stayed to speak with people in the audience. He answered many questions, including ones about the Ministry of Defence’s policies and the challenges private defence companies face in India. One big topic during this session was the Ministry of Defence’s decision to make 2025 the ‘Year of Reforms’. When asked how he feels about these coming reforms, Lt Gen Aujla said he is “very, very optimistic.”
