Balu Forge Makes Progress in Artillery Shell Production
Balu Forge has completed multiple dispatches of 152mm empty shells against an order announced earlier. It has also received approval and fresh orders for 105mm empty shells from a large Indian government defence unit. The company expects these deliveries to begin shortly.
Another major development is the approval of its 155mm Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB) shell. The product achieved a Total Indicated Runout (TIR) forging tolerance of 3mm and a machined wall tolerance of 0.3mm.
“This validates the company’s process capability and the standard of its manufacturing facilities. Serial dispatches are expected to commence shortly,” a company statement said.
Czech Order Strengthens European Defence Presence
The new purchase order has come from one of the largest armoured vehicle manufacturers based in the Czech Republic. The manufacturer supplies vehicles used in defence, mining, quarrying, construction and drilling.
The order will help Balu Forge build stronger business ties with European original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It also supports the company’s plan to work with more international customers instead of depending on a limited number of markets.
The company has also received quality approval for jet engine components for the aerospace sector. In the energy business, it has secured an order from a major US oil and gas company for large components weighing over 450 kg each. This order followed a successful factory audit and drawing approval.
What Balu Forge Management Said About New Orders
Trimaan Chandock, Executive Director at Balu Forge, said the company has reached an important stage as it moves from receiving orders to delivering them.
“This quarter marks a turning point for Balu Forge, from winning orders to delivering them. Dispatching 152mm and clearing the 155mm ERFB with runout of forging tolerance of TIR 3mm and machined wall tolerance of 0.3mm demonstrates that our facilities and processes meet the most exacting defence standards,”

Chandock said Balu Forge is also talking to new customers in aerospace, oil and gas and other precision engineering businesses.
“In the defence segment, we remain aligned with our planned expansion into additional variants of large-calibre ammunition with a new order from India’s largest defence shell factory, further strengthening our position in this strategically important sector,” he said.
