India-Russia Military Drills: Indra-2025 Strengthens Defence Ties

India and Russia have started the Indra-2025 military drills in Rajasthan to boost defence ties and improve coordination in counterterrorism operations.

India-Russia Military Drills: In the start of the October 2025, India and Russia started a big joint army training drill called Indra-2025 in the hot desert of Rajasthan. The drills are happening at the Mahajan training ground. They began on October 6 and will go on till October 15. The main idea is to help both countries’ armies learn to work together better and fight side by side.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said, “The main objective is to practice the coordination between the units of the two countries in combating international terrorism, including improving tactics for conducting counterterrorism operations.”

During this exercise, Indian and Russian soldiers are practicing how to plan missions, communicate well, and lead mixed groups of troops. They are also learning new ways to deal with modern battle situations. The training helps both sides improve teamwork, or what experts call “interoperability,” and share good methods they use in their own armies.

The Indra drills are not new they first started back in 2003 as joint army and navy exercises between India and Russia. Since then, these drills have helped both nations build trust and make their defense friendship stronger every year. They also work together on keeping the seas safe and fighting against common threats.

Other India-Russia Military excerise

Before Indra-2025 began India ad also took part in another big army event called Zapad-2025, which was held in Russia and Belarus in September. India sent 65 soldiers to join that training. The group had people from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, and it was led by the Kumaon Regiment. Unlike Indra, the Zapad drills focused on regular warfare training, like how to fight on open flat land and how to control troops, and how to make different units move and act together properly.

Russia openly thanked India for joining the Zapad drills even though, as they said, some Western countries didn’t like it.

Deputy Secretary Alexander Venediktov said, “We are grateful to you for the participation of the Indian military in the Zapad 2025 exercise. We know that this raised concerns in Western capitals, and attempts were made to dissuade New Delhi from participating.” India’s Defence Ministry also said that this event “will further deepen cooperation in the field of defense and strengthen the spirit of camaraderie between India and Russia.”
