India-Pakistan Ceasefire

India-Pakistan Ceasefire: India and Pakistan have decided to stop fighting each other for now. The news came from the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday. Both countries agreed to stop using their armies, air forces, and navy against each other. This decision will start from 5 PM today, May 10.

The Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri, said that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations, also called DGMO, spoke on the phone with the Indian DGMO in the afternoon around 3:35 PM. They both agreed to stop all types of firing and any kind of military action on land, in the sky, and in the sea.

The two DGMOs had this phone call and decided that their armies will stop fighting completely. After this phone call, both countries gave orders to their armies to follow the new plan. According to Times Now, Vikram Misri said, “Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours.”

Talks on May 12

Both DGMOs will talk again on May 12 at 12 PM. They want to make sure that everything goes as planned. This next meeting will help them talk more about how to keep the peace between the two countries. These kinds of talks are important because they help to stop big fights and make sure fewer people get hurt.

A ceasefire means that two sides in a fight agree to stop shooting or attacking each other. It can happen when one side decides to stop or when both sides talk and agree together. A ceasefire does not always mean the war is over, but it helps make space for peace talks or to take care of wounded people. In wars, sometimes countries use this quiet time to rest their soldiers, check how strong the other side is, or talk about peace. Even though helping sick or hurt people is important, the main reason for a ceasefire is often about military plans and decisions.
