India and Brazil Defence Ties
India and Brazil have had a close friendship for a long time, and in 2006 this bond was officially made into a Strategic Partnership. Over the years, both countries have also worked together in groups like BRICS, IBSA, G20, G-4, and even in global platforms like the UN, WTO, and UNESCO.
The Indian Embassy in Brazil said that their relationship is based on shared democratic values and a similar way of looking at the world. They both also want to grow their economies while making sure the benefits reach all people. They are also part of things like the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuel Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
In 2024, India and Brazil also started something new called a 2+2 Political-Military dialogue. This is where both the political and military leaders come together to talk about issues that matter to both sides. Before this, they had a Strategic Dialogue system that began in 2006 and met five times between 2007 and 2015, discussing global and regional concerns.
Strong Defence Ties with Training
Defence officials from both countries keep meeting each other often and that has made the relationship even better. In the last two years alone, there have been many visits. The Chief of the Indian Air Force went to Brazil, and not long after that, the Chiefs of the Brazilian Army, Navy, and Air Force came to India. These visits helped both sides understand each other better and make plans to work together more easily.
Since the year 2007, a total of 134 officers from both India and Brazil have gone through military training programs together. Out of these, 70 officers were from India and 64 were from Brazil.
