DRDO Successfully Fires Pralay Missile Twice with 500km Range, 700kg Payload

DRDO Pralay Missile: India has taken another big step in becoming stronger in defence as DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) carried out two successful tests of the Pralay missile. These back-to-back tests were done from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, which is near the Odisha coast. The missile tests happened on 28 and 29 July 2025, and the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s office shared the news on Tuesday.

Missile Hits Target with Accuracy

The main goal of these tests was to check how far and how close the Pralay missile can strike. Both times the missile flew exactly the way it was supposed to and hit the target without any problem. The team used tracking sensors and other equipment on a special test ship to watch everything, and the results showed that all systems worked just like they should. All the parts of the missile and its control systems performed perfectly during both tests.

This missile is not like normal ones. Pralay is made using solid fuel and it’s a quasi-ballistic missile, which means it can move a bit differently than regular ballistic missiles and is harder to track.

It comes with very advanced guidance and navigation technology, and it can carry different types of warheads to hit different targets. It has been fully made in India with the help of DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) along with help from other labs and Indian industries. Big Indian defence companies like Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited and many small and medium companies (MSMEs) also worked together on this project.

Leaders Praise the Team

This was a proud moment for India’s defence team. The test was watched by top DRDO scientists, officials from the Indian Air Force and Army, and people from the defence companies who helped build the system.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that this missile will give India’s army more power and better technology to face any danger. He said on his X handle, “DRDO has conducted two successful tests of the Pralay missile on 28 and 29 July.”

DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat also shared his happiness and praised everyone who worked on the tests. He said that the success of these first-phase tests means the missile system is now closer to being given to the Indian Army.
