Türkiye’s Tolga Air Defense System Shoots Down Drones in Major Test

Türkiye’s new Tolga air defense system successfully brought down multiple drones during a live test in Konya. The system used both jamming and gunfire, proving its strength against modern air threats.

Türkiye’s Tolga Air Defense System: Türkiye’s defense company MKE carried out a big test of it’s new anti-drone system called Tolga and the system managed to stopped many unmanned aerial vehicles during a planned trial. The test took place at the Ministry of National Defense’s Karapınar Firing Test and Evaluation Group Command in Konya, where teams tried both soft-kill and hard-kill methods. MKE revealed Tolga system for the first time earlier this year at the IDEF 2025 defense fair in Istanbul,

The Tolga Close Air Drone Defense System was made to deal with new types of threats that come from drones and smart weapons. The system has a command and control center and radar units, and it also uses turret weapons and special anti-drone ammunition. It forms a defense layer that works together to stop mini and micro UAVs, tactical drones and cruise missiles, and guided munitions.

The system mixes electronic jamming with physical destruction so it can handle different kinds of attacks. During the soft-kill part of the test, radar found an enemy drone about 3 kilometers away. It was confirmed with electro-optics, and the jamming system then brought it down.

In the hard-kill part thee system used fixed 12.7 mm guns and a vehicle-mounted rotary 12.7 mm gun, and 20 mm weapons to destroy drones that flew low and close. Special ammunition formed a metal cloud around the target, which raised the chance of hitting it to a very high level.

Tolga Passed all Test Goals

After the trials, MKE General Manager Ilhami Keleş spoke to reporters and said the Tolga system worked very well against real targets. He said the test used a type of drone often seen in the Russia-Ukraine war. Keleş also explained that the Tolga system is a full package that combines command and control, radar, electro-optics, jamming, guns, and special ammunition, reported Daily Sabah.

He said “Türkiye’s announced Steel Dome has now had its lower layer, air and drone defense infrastructure at 3,000 meters altitude and below, established with the Tolga system.” He added, “We have all witnessed its live examples here.”

Keleş also said, “These systems are the most needed systems in the world right now, because drone threats have become a major issue that all countries are working on.” He said the company is meeting Türkiye’s needs and also getting a chance to reach a big part of the global market.

He shared that MKE plans to show Tolga in many countries to prove what it can do. Keleş said, “Today, the fact that all planned scenarios were carried out smoothly and successfully, and that most targets were neutralized with very little ammunition, many in the first burst of just three to four rounds, is a major achievement and has given us great confidence.” He also said, “We have completed the groundwork for mass production. We are ready to begin large-scale production for both the ammunition and weapon components.”
