Iran Drone Attacks on Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia said its air defence systems shot down several drones that were flying toward important areas of the country. The Saudi Ministry of Defence said the attacks targeted the capital Riyadh and parts of the eastern region.
Officials said 10 drones were intercepted and destroyed before they could reach their targets. Just about an hour earlier the ministry had also announced that two drones were destroyed in the eastern part of the country.
Before these latest interceptions Saudi forces had already stopped seven drones in the same areas. This means many drones were sent toward the kingdom in a short period of time. Authorities say their air defence systems acted quickly to protect central and eastern parts of Saudi Arabia.
Further north another drone was detected over the Al-Jawf area. Officials confirmed the “interception and destruction of a drone” after it was seen over the “Al-Jawf region.”
Iran Says it is Not Responsible
After the drone attacks were reported the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps made a statement. According to reports the group said it was not behind the operation.
In a formal message the IRGC said, “this attack has no connection to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Saudi government should seek to discover the origin of the attacks.”
This statement came soon after the interceptions were reported. The situation has raised questions about who launched the drones and what the real goal of the attacks might be.
Regional Tensions Rising
The drone incidents happened during a week of heavy military activity in the region. Earlier on Friday Saudi Arabia said its air defence destroyed nearly 50 drones within only a few hours. Officials described the situation as an “unusually high level of aerial threats for Saudi Arabia.” Important places like the US Embassy and major oil facilities are seen as possible targets.
At the same time fighting has increased in other parts of the Middle East. Israel confirmed that it carried out new strikes in Tehran. The Israeli military said, “The IDF has just begun a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime across Tehran.”
Israeli forces also carried out attacks in Lebanon. One target was the Al-Zrariya Bridge on the LitRiver. The Israeli military said Hezbollah had been using the bridge to move fighters. The IDF explained the reason for the strike saying, “In order to prevent a threat to civilians of the State of Israel and the continued harm to Lebanese civilians, it was necessary to strike the bridge.”
Meanwhile US President Donald Trump also spoke strongly about Iran. In a message posted on Truth Social he said the US military is weakening Iran’s power. Trump wrote, “We have unparalleled firepower, unlimited ammunition, and plenty of time – watch what happens to these deranged scumbags today.”

He added another strong statement saying, “They’ve been killing innocent people all over the world for 47 years, and now I, as the 47th President of the United States of America, am killing them. What a great honour it is to do so.”
Despite the tough words and military actions there are still worries about the future of the region. Some reports say the US government may not have expected Iran to possibly close the Strait of Hormuz after the recent strikes.
