CRPF Women Motorcycle Expedition Celebrates Unity and Women's Empowerment

Teams 1 and 2 of CRPF women bikers, who began their voyage on October 3 from Srinagar and Shillong, were flagged off from the CRPF SDG campus to Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, by Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development. CRPF’s Director General, Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, and other senior officers were present.

In her speech, the Honorable Minister lauded these courageous CRPF women as examples of women’s empowerment. On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, she honored the valiant heroes who sacrificed their lives and thanked their families for making the nation safer and more secure.

Dr. Thaosen, director general of the Central Reserve Police Force, reported that these two teams had already traveled 1027 and 2284 kilometers, respectively, and that their journey would conclude in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. He noted with pride that the fighting spirit and dedication of the female CRPF personnel had garnered them the Ashok Chakra and police medals for valor.

The two teams arrived in Gurugram on October 19 and are currently en route to their final destination, Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Gujarat, where they will meet Team 3, which began in Triveni, Kanyakumari.

Each of the three Yashasvini teams consists of 50 courageous CRPF women riding 25 Royal Enfield 350 cc motorcycles on a 10,000-kilometer voyage across 15 states and 2 union territories of India to promote unity and inclusivity.

Notably, the CRPF is hosting multiple events this year to recognize the extraordinary bravery of its female personnel, with the YASHASVINI CRPF Women Motorcycle Expedition serving as the centerpiece.

This Motorcycle Expedition is a joint endeavor between the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Transportation. During their voyage, these women are interacting with students, NCC cadets, Anganadi workers, and Self-Help Groups to spread the message “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.”

The flag-off of the women’s motorcycle rally at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, marked a turning point in the nation’s internal security landscape, whereas the flag-off at Triveni Sangam, Kanyakumari, signified national unity at the confluence of major waterways. The launch in Shillong, Meghalaya, conveyed a powerful message of empowerment from a matriarchal society.

The majority of these female motorcyclists lacked prior motorcycle experience and hail from a variety of regions, including Poonch, Rajouri, Tripura, and the Western Ghats. Their one-month of intensive training in Delhi, combined with their resolve, has allowed them to realize their true strength and potential.

At Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, the Honorable Prime Minister of India will welcome these 150 courageous women, known as ‘Yashasvini,’ for the conclusion of this extraordinary expedition.
