InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation Unveil Vision for India’s Electric Air Taxi Service

Electric Air Taxi Service in India: Archer Aviation Inc., a leader in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and InterGlobe Enterprises, the largest travel and hospitality company in India, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together on launching and running an all-electric air taxi service in India, as long as they get all the necessary regulatory approvals and clearances.

Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe, and Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer of Archer, will form a ground-breaking partnership to meet the nation’s transportation needs. The partnership will improve urban mobility by offering a low-noise, sustainable, and safe electric air taxi service that is affordable compared to ground transportation.

The parties plan to fund and construct vertiport infrastructure, educate pilots and other staff required for these activities, and operate Archer’s aircraft in collaboration with a limited number of domestic business partners. In addition, the alliance intends to provide funding for the acquisition of up to 200 Archer Midnight aircraft for its operations in India.

The four-passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing of Archer’s Midnight aircraft is piloted and intended to conduct quick back-to-back flights with little idle time in between. The objective is for a passenger on an InterGlobe-Archer airplane to be able to complete the 27-kilometer journey from Connaught Place to Gurugram in about 7 minutes, which is normally 60 to 90 minutes by automobile.

The parties intend to explore a range of different use cases for the electric aircraft in India, including freight, logistics, emergency and medical services, private company and charter services, in addition to urban air taxi services.

“Over the last two decades, InterGlobe has been involved in providing safe, efficient, and affordable transportation to hundreds of millions of Indians across the country,” stated Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe. We are thrilled about this new chance to introduce Archer’s electric aircraft to India as a practical, cutting-edge, and environmentally friendly form of transportation.

My goal when I started Archer was to aid in the decongestion of the biggest cities on the planet. With over 1.4 billion people living there and some of the world’s worst traffic problems in its major cities, India presents one of, if not the biggest, opportunity for the use of eVTOL aircraft worldwide, according to CEO and founder of Archer Adam Goldstein. “Archer’s all-electric Midnight aircraft is designed to provide a revolutionary transportation solution that can help address these congestion issues,” Goldstein said.

In addition, Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer of Archer Aviation, stated: “At Archer, our mission is to create more intelligent, efficient, and environmentally friendly cities.” With the intention of beginning in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, we are thrilled to be working with Rahul and the InterGlobe team to introduce our Midnight aircraft to Indian cities and radically change transportation throughout the nation.

According to World Bank projections, the urban population will more than quadruple by 2050, while short road commutes can take up to two hours in many of the largest cities worldwide. This indicates that urban congestion is unsustainable. In order to give India, which is rapidly approaching the $5 trillion mark in GDP, a low-noise, safe, and sustainable urban mobility option, Archer has developed cutting-edge electric air taxis.
