CRPF Expands New Forward Base as Maoist Influence Fades in Chhattisgarh

CRPF has set up another key Forward Operating Base in a tough Chhattisgarh region, giving security forces deeper access as Maoist control declines and remote villages begin receiving long-denied development and services.

CRPF Expands in Chhattisgarh: Police in Chhattisgarh say a new CRPF camp now stands in Pallewaya village, a faraway place inside the dense Abujhmad region. The area stayed cut off for many years because the forest is thick and the land is rough. For a long time, people saw Pallewaya as a base for the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Now the government wants to change that by bringing security and development to the villagers.

Officials said the Dantewada district police and the 165th battalion of the CRPF set up the camp on December 4. They built it in a key spot near the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. News agency PTI reported that security forces also removed old Maoist memorials while creating the camp. Police from Bijapur, the 201st CoBRA battalion, and the Young Platoons of the 231st, 111th and 165th CRPF battalions all helped the team finish the job.

Goal of the New Base

The new camp is part of the Chhattisgarh government’s welfare plan called “Niyad Nella Nar”. Officers say it will be used as a Forward Operating Base for the CRPF’s 165th battalion. Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police RK Barman told PTI that the base will help join several remote villages in Bijapur and the nearby Narayanpur district. He said it will slowly link these places to the outside world.

Barman said, “The camp was set up despite difficult terrain and adverse weather. Security forces worked at full pace while ensuring their own safety. The establishment of the camp reflects the extraordinary courage, determination and professionalism of the forces, who worked round-the-clock to bring governance to the region.”

He explained that the new base will help villages get things they never had before. People will now get better roads, electricity, mobile networks, health centres, PDS shops and schools. Many of these places had no connection to government services for decades.

Peace Building

Barman told PTI that, “The Pallewaya FOB will strengthen security, build trust among villagers and pave the way for sustained development. It marks a historic step toward securing the inner regions of Abujhmad and ensuring long-term peace, prosperity and progress for communities living there.”

Police say this new foothold will help them move deeper into the tough forest zones and protect the people who live there. The Centre has already set March 31, 2026, as the target to fully remove Left-wing extremism. The new base at Pallewaya is seen as one more strong move toward that goal.
