Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi has taken charge as the new Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla on 01 November 2025. He took over the position from Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, AVSM, NM. With this new role, he now leads one of India’s most respected military training institutions that prepares future leaders of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Long Naval Journey
Vice Admiral Jaggi studied at the Indian Naval Academy and joined the Indian Navy on 01 January 1993. He is a specialist in Navigation and Direction and has served the Navy for more than 30 years. His career is full of rich experience in operations, training, staff duties, and foreign cooperation.

During his naval journey, he commanded two famous warships INS Veer, a missile vessel, and INS Sahyadri, a modern stealth frigate built in India. Both ships played an important part in improving the Navy’s strength at sea and showed the country’s growing self-reliance in defence.
He studied at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington and the Naval War College in Goa. He also went to Sweden to attend the United Nations Observer Course at SWEDINT. His time in these institutions helped him gain deep knowledge about defence and leadership.

Vice Admiral Jaggi always believed in teaching and shaping young officers. He worked as a Divisional Officer at the Indian Naval Academy and later taught at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington.

He also represented India abroad as the Naval Adviser at the High Commission of India in London. Later, he worked as Commodore (Foreign Cooperation) at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. These roles helped him build strong connections with foreign navies and understand global defence relations better.
After becoming a Rear Admiral, he took charge as the Flag Officer Commanding Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area. Later also he led the Maharashtra Naval Area, where he managed coastal defence operations and worked on improving infrastructure and welfare under the Western Naval Command.
