Barak-8 Missile: The Indian Army has completed final tests for the Barak-8 missile system, confirming it is fully ready for use. This advanced missile system will now join the Indian Navy and Air Force, which have already started using it after earlier successful trials.

During the recent tests, the Barak-8 missile successfully destroyed four different flying targets. These targets were moving at different speeds, heights, and distances, proving the missile’s ability to stop various threats.

Israel and India worked together to develop the Barak-8 system. Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) designed it, while Bharat Dynamics Limited and other Indian companies manufacture it.

According to The Defense Post, Boaz Levy, the President and CEO of IAI, said, “The Barak System gives strong protection against many air and missile threats. These successful tests show the strong partnership between Israel and India, including our work with the Indian Ministry of Defense and industries in both countries.”

In 2017, India’s Ministry of Defence signed a $1.6 billion deal to buy the Barak-8 system. A year later, they placed another order worth $777 million for a longer-range version.

Recently, in January 2025, India ordered more than 70 Barak-8 missiles from Bharat Dynamics. These missiles will be installed on new Indian warships in the future.

To make sure the system works smoothly, IAI has set up local companies in India. These companies will provide maintenance and technical support whenever needed.

How the Barak-8 System Works

The Barak-8 is a powerful defense system that can stop enemy aircraft, helicopters, drones, and even missiles. It includes a high-tech radar that detects threats, a control system, mobile launchers, and missiles that can hit targets up to 70 kilometers (43 miles) away. With these successful tests, the Indian Army is now fully prepared to use the Barak-8 system, making India’s defense even stronger.
