ATAGS new name: India’s main home-made artillery gun now has a new name. The Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, known for years as ATAGS, has been officially named “Amogh” which means Infallible. People saw this new name clearly written on the gun during Army Day parade rehearsals held on January 15.These visuals make it very clear that the Indian Army has now locked the final name for this powerful gun.
When the Army gives a proper name to any weapon system, it usually means the system is ready and trusted. The name “Amogh” fits well with what the Army expects from this gun. The word stands for something that never fails and always hits its target. The Army believes this gun will perform well in real battle and serve for many years. That’s why the naming holds both emotional and military value.

Powerful Gun Built Fully in India
The Defence Research and Development Organisation led the making of this artillery system with help from Indian companies. Together, they created one of the most powerful towed guns in the world. Amogh uses a 155mm gun with a 52-calibre barrel. During tests, it showed amazing results. The gun fired shells beyond 48 kilometers, which is a very long distance for a towed artillery gun. This places it among the top guns of its type anywhere in the world.
The system also uses modern technology to make work easier for soldiers. It has an all-electric drive and automatic shell loading. The fire control system helps the crew aim faster and shoot more accurately. Because of this the soldiers can move the gun quickly and fire more rounds in less time.

Big Step for Army
Seeing Amogh during the Army Day rehearsals is important for another reason too. It shows the project has moved ahead from testing stages to real Army use. The Indian Army has already placed large orders for this gun. This makes it one of the biggest artillery deals under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” plan. This focuses on cutting down imports and building defence equipment inside India.
