K9 Vajra-T Howitzers: Shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) rose by 0.61% to ₹3,662.90 on the BSE following the announcement of a new contract from the Indian Army. The contract, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, is for the supply of K9 Vajra-T self-propelled artillery platforms. This deal represents a significant achievement for L&T’s precision engineering systems division.
The K9 Vajra-T is a 155mm/52-caliber tracked howitzer jointly developed by L&T and South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace, based on the K9 Thunder. The platform has been customized to suit the Indian Army’s diverse operational needs across deserts, plains, and high-altitude regions.

According to Thehindubusinessline, L&T first delivered 100 K9 Vajra-T platforms ahead of schedule in 2017, demonstrating its advanced capabilities in defense system design and manufacturing. The upcoming batch will also be produced at L&T’s Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.
This state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, is a cornerstone of India’s defense manufacturing infrastructure. It supports collaborations with numerous micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and aligns with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, aimed at bolstering self-reliance in defense equipment production.

L&T’s stock has shown strong performance, with its share price nearing its 52-week high of ₹3,963, recorded on December 10, 2024. The stock’s 52-week low was ₹3,175 on June 6, 2024. The contract further underscores L&T’s role in advancing India’s defense capabilities, contributing to both the company’s growth and the nation’s strategic objectives.
