PM Modi’s US Visit: Defense Deals on the Table, What PM Modi could purchase from US?
The new 10-year defence agreement between India and the US will start in 2025 and last until 2035. This agreement will make it easier for both countries to share defence equipment and services. It will also help India buy defence products more quickly and efficiently.
According to India TV News, PM Modi and US President Donald Trump agreed to review rules about sharing weapons and technology, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). This review will make it simpler for India and the US to trade defence products and share technology. It will also help India maintain and repair the defence systems it buys from the US.
India is already an important defence partner for the US. The US has given India a special status called ‘Strategic Trade Authorisation-1 (STA-1)’, which makes it easier for the two countries to work together on defence. India is also part of the QUAD group, which includes the US, Japan, and Australia. This group works together to keep the Indo-Pacific region safe.

The US plans to sell more defence products to India and work together to make new weapons. For example, the two countries plan to co-produce “Javelin” anti-tank missiles and “Stryker” infantry combat vehicles. They have also agreed to buy six more P-8I Maritime Patrol aircraft for India. These planes will help India monitor the Indian Ocean more effectively and keep it secure.
