Launching the SIDBI-T-Hub Funding Programme and signing multiple strategic memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with major industry players, India’s top startup incubator, T-Hub, declared a major boost for the domestic defence and aerospace sectors.

According to Financial Express, declared during the National Defense and Aerospace Innovation Summit (DIAS), this project is a crucial step in developing a strong defence and aerospace solution centre in India. It highlights a persistent will to advance creativity, promote teamwork, and strengthen national security.

“One of T-Hub’s flagship programmes, the Innovation for Defense Excellence Program (IDEX), executed in collaboration with the Defense Innovation Organisation (DIO) under the Ministry of Defense, has incubated around 40 startups,” said Mahankali Srinivas Rao (MSR), CEO of T-Hub, in an exclusive interview with Financial Express Online.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have teamed up with T-Hub to start a space tech program in addition to the defence business. With help from T-Hub, companies like Skyroot Aerospace and Dhruva Space have done very well. This project wants to take advantage of the space industry’s fast growth.

‘Over the years the quality of play and skill level has continued to grow’ Says Indian Air Force Chief

As the first Indian private company to launch rockets into space, Skyroot Aerospace, for example, is noteworthy.

In answer to a question about T-Hub’s emphasis on space technology, MSR states, “T-Hub’s space tech programme focuses on creating a strong ecosystem by promoting partnerships between startups, big organisations like ISRO, and corporate partners like Amazon. Using well-organized courses, guidance, and the availability of resources like T-Works, the biggest prototype facility in India, T-Hub enables companies to grow and seize chances in the international space industry.”

He says T-Hub’s goals and the government’s focus on increasing domestic defence production—especially through programs like Make-In India—align nicely. By programs like IDEX and gatherings like the Defense Space Innovation Summit, T-Hub actively promotes entrepreneurs in the defence industry. “These platforms give startups the chance to present their innovations, network with possible partners, and become known to investors, corporations, and policymakers,” he says.

How does T-Hub facilitate funding for business owners?

Though entrepreneurs find it difficult to get capital, T-Hub works closely with investors to find and develop exciting prospects. He says that in the past, investors have been wary because of working capital needs and what they see to be lengthy decision-making cycles. Still, more investors are becoming interested in the aerospace and defence industries thanks to organized procedures and a growing emphasis on indigenization. “T-Hub makes this process easier by putting startups in touch with investors and announcing programs like the Defense Related Fund to help them even more.”

Artificial intelligence and disruptive technologies

For aerospace and defence firms, he claims, the rise of disruptive technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) brings both opportunities and challenges. Understanding this, T-Hub developed an AI and ML Center of Excellence to assist entrepreneurs using these technologies. Within this ecosystem, startups—including those developing dual-use technology for both civilian and military applications—get funding in fields like cybersecurity, where MSR notes that creativity is essential to countering contemporary threats.

Locating Startups

T-Hub uses a strict screening procedure, including academic institutions and expert panels, to find businesses for its programmes. T-Hub makes sure that its programs make a difference and move the environment forward by focusing on entrepreneurs who have clear goals and creative solutions.

MSR says that T-Hub’s work on starting programs for the defense and aerospace industries has been a big part of encouraging new ideas, helping startups, and building up India’s capabilities. Today, T-Hub plays a big role in the growth of India’s aerospace and military startup scene by providing strategic relationships, advice, and resources.
