Swan Defence Chief Operating Officer: Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited has brought in Venu Avadhanula as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Senior Management Personnel. His appointment took effect on October 1, 2026.
The company disclosed the change to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The filing was signed by Company Secretary Priti P. Dave. The appointment comes as Swan Defence continues to expand its shipbuilding, defence and heavy engineering work at its large Pipavav facility in Gujarat.

Venu Avadhanula Brings Decades Of Shipyard Experience
Avadhanula has more than 34 years of experience in the maritime and shipbuilding industry. His career has covered shipyard production, operations, project management and infrastructure development.
His professional background includes senior roles at Drydocks World in Dubai. A publicly available professional profile records his work there in project management and production roles. It also says he handled ship repair, conversion and naval projects and was involved in developing major shipyard facilities.
His earlier work also included a long career in the Merchant Navy. The profile says he sailed on bulk carriers, container ships and product carriers before moving into shipyard management. He later worked with P&O Maritime and ABG Shipyard in Mozambique and India.

The company has appointed him at a time when its Pipavav yard is handling projects across commercial shipbuilding and defence. Swan Defence says its facility covers more than 600 acres and includes a 662-metre by 65-metre dry dock with a capacity of up to 400,000 DWT.

Swan Defence Expands Shipbuilding Work
Swan Defence has been adding new commercial and defence projects in 2026. In April, the company announced an order from Energy ONE Limited for four 92,500 DWT dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers. The company said these would be among the largest commercial vessels built at an Indian shipyard.
The company also secured a USD 227 million contract in January 2026 for six 18,000 DWT chemical tankers from European shipowner Rederiet Stenersen AS. The deal included an option for six more vessels.
On the defence side, Swan Defence says its Pipavav facility supports newbuilds, refits and other maritime defence programmes. The company also received several defence manufacturing licences from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in 2025.
