Advanced BrahMos missile: India and Russia have started talks to make a better and more powerful version of the BrahMos missile. This new version will be made in India under the ‘Make in India’ push.

The BrahMos missile has already shown it’s strong power during Operation Sindoor when India used it to hit Pakistan’s targets. Both countries want to build this improved missile together, and the work will happen in the new BrahMos unit in Uttar Pradesh.

The BrahMos missile is made by both India and Russia, and it is very fast and dangerous. The missile can fly over 300 km in just a few minutes and is very hard to stop. Even the defence systems of countries like China and Pakistan can’t stop it. That is why India wants to make more of them. Sources say that the new factory in Uttar Pradesh has been chosen to make these advanced missiles. This plant will now produce these weapons on a much bigger level, reports TOI.

A newspaper said that Russia has agreed to give full technical help so India can build these new missiles. The talks about this have already begun between the two countries. The BrahMos missile was used by the Indian Air Force in Operation Sindoor. On May 10, fighter jets like the SU-30 MKI fired BrahMos missiles and hit Pakistan’s control centers, including one at the Nur Khan airbase. These missiles helped destroy terror bases and gave a strong answer to Pakistan.

The BrahMos missile has many versions already. It can be launched from land, from ships, and even from land to hit ships. India has worked for many years to make these different types.

To help build more weapons like BrahMos, India set up a big factory in Lucknow. This new BrahMos Aerospace unit sits on land that the government gave for free. The cost of the factory is ₹300 crore. The campus has one main unit and seven smaller support units.

On May 11, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath opened this new facility. During the event, the UP CM proudly spoke about how powerful the BrahMos missile is and how it helped during the military operation. He said if people didn’t see how strong BrahMos was during Operation Sindoor, they could ask the people of Pakistan.

In 2018 the PM Narendra Modi had announced that two defence corridors would be built to help India become more self-reliant in weapons production. One of these corridors is in Uttar Pradesh, and the other one is in Tamil Nadu. These defence corridors are part of India’s big ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ plans. These plans want to cut down on buying weapons from other countries and make more in India.

The UP Defence Industrial Corridor is growing fast. In just four years, 57 companies have received land to build their factories there. These companies are building at different stages now. The total investment for these factories is more than ₹9,462 crore. These factories are also expected to give jobs to over 13,700 people directly. The government signed the first land deal in June 2021, and since then, things have moved very quickly.
