Invar Missiles: The Ministry of Defence is getting ready to place a big order for 500 Invar anti-tank guided missiles from Bharat Dynamics Ltd, which is a company run by the government. This deal might cost between Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 3,000 crore.

A senior government official shared this news recently, saying that the order is part of a bigger plan to make India’s tanks stronger and more accurate in battle, reports News18. These missiles will be used with T-90 main battle tanks, which are already playing an important role in India’s army.

Invar missiles are very good at hitting targets and are already being used by Indian soldiers on the frontlines. These missiles are launched from tanks and are known for their sharp aim and power. Right now, officials are checking the final costs of the order before giving the green signal.

This cost checking is important because different levels of approval are needed based on how much money is being spent. If the cost stays under Rs 2,000 crore, then the Defence Minister can approve it. But if it is around Rs 3,000 crore, then the Finance Minister has to step in. And if it goes over Rs 3,000 crore, then the Cabinet will need to approve it.

Missile Order to Boost Local Industry

Usually, big defence purchases like this go through the Defence Acquisition Council, also called DAC. This council is headed by the Defence Minister and it can clear deals that are not more than Rs 2,000 crore. But if the cost is more, then the deal needs higher approvals. Just a few weeks ago, DAC also approved emergency defence purchases worth about Rs 40,000 crore. That decision was made to make India more ready for any kind of threat.

This upcoming missile deal with BDL fits well with the government’s ‘Make in India’ plan, which wants to make India more self-reliant in building defence weapons. Bharat Dynamics Ltd is already a trusted supplier for the Indian military and makes many types of advanced missiles. The official said, “BDL has already established a proven track record in delivering these systems.” So, this new order shows that the Defence Ministry trusts BDL to deliver again.

These missiles will make India’s military stronger, especially near the western and northern borders. These are the areas where T-90 tanks are mostly used. By adding better weapons like Invar missiles to these tanks, the army will be able to fight better and protect the country more strongly.

A government official said, “Invar missiles are designed to be launched from tank platforms. The Defence Ministry is finalising an order for 500 missiles from BDL, with the total expenditure expected to be in the range of Rs 2,000 crore–3,000 crore.”

This missile purchase is also being seen in the larger picture of India’s recent military actions. After a serious terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian forces carried out Operation Sindoor. It was a very accurate strike meant to punish those responsible. The operation hit terrorist areas in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir. What stood out in this operation was how much India relied on its own technology. From drones to smart air defence and electronic warfare tools, Indian-made systems played a big role.
