ideaForge YETI Drone Project: ideaForge Technology has received a major boost after getting a Letter of Intent for ₹151 crore in long-term debt financing under the Government of India’s Research, Development and Innovation, or RDI, Scheme. The money will support YETI, a heavy-lift autonomous aerial platform that the company is building for hard and remote places.
The scheme itself is a ₹1 lakh crore fund meant to support private sector innovation in deep-tech areas like AI, robotics, space, and advanced manufacturing. It was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 1, 2025.
What is the YETI Drone Built for?
YETI is not a normal drone. It is a fixed-wing VTOL hybrid aircraft made for military logistics and other tough missions. According to the company details carried in the latest reports, it can lift up to 200 kg, travel up to 200 km, and operate both day and night. It is also built to take off from small or semi-prepared launch pads, which makes it useful in places where regular aircraft cannot easily work. The platform is meant to handle high-altitude zones, deserts, marine areas, snow, heat, humidity, and other harsh conditions.
How YETI will Help Indian Soldiers?
Indian soldiers often need supplies in places where roads are poor, blocked, or too dangerous to use. That is especially true in the Himalayas, where weather and height make transport slow and difficult. YETI is meant to carry food, ammunition, medicines, equipment, and other needed items straight to remote posts. The platform may also be useful for disaster response, offshore work, construction support, industrial logistics, and express cargo in hard-to-reach areas.
The company says the project is part of India’s bigger push for self-reliant defence technology. ideaForge is among the first firms to receive support under the RDI framework, which adds weight to India’s deep-tech drone plans. The government wants more local research and more home-grown defence systems, and YETI fits that goal well.

ideaForge CEO and Co-founder Ankit Mehta said YETI is “a generational leap” and described it as a system made to deliver supplies in very difficult places. In the company’s own words, the platform is meant to help where roads end and where weather makes normal transport hard. The funding will now move the project into design, development, testing, and prototype work, which means the drone is now entering a more serious build phase.
