SSLV rockets: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has entered into a space agreement with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), NewSpace India Limited and also with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre. This deal is about the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle, better known as SSLV. HAL shared the news in its filing to the stock exchange. After this update came out, the shares of HAL went up by 2 percent on Wednesday and the stock was trading at Rs 4,503.55 on the BSE, rising 1.12 percent during the day.
The SSLV is a three-stage rocket. It is built to carry satellites that weigh less than 500 kg and place them into low Earth orbit. In today’s space world, many small companies and even countries want to send lightweight satellites into space, and SSLV has been designed to meet this growing need.

Features of SSLV and what the deal says
Under this agreement, HAL will use the SSLV technology for the first two years and then it will move into a 10-year long production phase. In its filing, HAL explained that it has signed a license that is non-exclusive and also non-transferable with ISRO.
This makes HAL the one responsible for everything related to SSLV. The work will include design, manufacturing, quality checks, integration of parts, launch operations, analysis after flights, making reports, and also providing training and support.
If things go smoothly as planned, HAL will take full charge of producing SSLVs in large numbers. The aim is to meet not just India’s need but also demand from other countries. This marks a very big step for HAL because it shows the company wants to become much more than just a supplier of parts.

HAL’s long-term plan
This fits well with the company’s long-term plan where HAL wants to set up a completely separate division for space work. Earlier the company was mostly known for making aircraft and supplying components, but now with this agreement HAL is moving closer to entering the full space business.
Mass production of SSLV rockets can also give India more presence in the global market where the demand for launching small satellites is only growing day by day.
