Government Deal with BEL: The Indian government has signed a ₹642 crore agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to equip the Navy’s upcoming offshore patrol vessels and cadet training ships with modern electro-optical fire control systems.
This deal, signed in New Delhi, aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that 28 EON-51 systems will be delivered under the Indian-IDDM category, ensuring these ships have cutting-edge surveillance and targeting capabilities.

EON-51 is designed to improve detection and tracking of targets using electro-optical and thermal imaging technology. A ministry official described it as a step forward in strengthening India’s naval operations while also supporting domestic defense industries.
“The scheme will generate employment over a period of three years and encourage active participation of various Indian industries including MSMEs, thus significantly contributing to the government’s efforts to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence,” the ministry said according to Deccanherald
BEL has a strong track record in developing and supplying advanced defense technology for India’s armed forces. Over the years the company has played a very important role in several major defense projects, reinforcing the country’s self-reliance in military hardware.
BEL had secured contracts for Akash missile system radars, electronic warfare systems, and naval communication equipment. The company has also supplied coastal surveillance systems and smart anti-airfield weapons, strengthening India’s defense capabilities.
In 2023 BEL signed deals worth thousands of crores, including agreements for armored vehicle electronics, drone detection systems, and advanced radar technology. The company’s expertise in electro optics, radar systems, and electronic warfare solutions continues to be a part of India’s defense modernization efforts.
With this deal for advanced naval system, the government aims to enhance the Navy’s operational edge while giving a boost to indigenous production.
