Adani Defence Partners with Sparton for Underwater Defence Tech for Indian Navy

Adani Defence teams up with Sparton to produce high-tech anti-submarine gear in India. This move supports local manufacturing and helps the Indian Navy become more independent from foreign suppliers.

Adani Defence and Sparto

Adani Defence and Sparto: Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed an important agreement with Sparton, a company under Elbit Systems known for its anti-submarine warfare technology. This partnership is a big step in making high-tech underwater defence equipment in India, instead of buying it from other countries. The news was shared by Adani Defence on Sunday, as reported by ANI.

With this move, Adani becomes the first private company in India to offer locally made sonobuoys. These are special devices used to find and track submarines underwater. They are very important for keeping an eye on the seas and protecting important naval groups like aircraft carriers. The sonobuoys help detect and follow submarines quickly and accurately, which makes them a key part of today’s naval defence systems.

The deal combines Sparton’s anti-submarine tech with Adani’s defence manufacturing skills to deliver ready-to-use gear for the Indian Navy. It supports ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ by reducing India’s dependence on foreign defence equipment. With Sparton’s existing ties to the Navy, Adani can begin local production more easily.

Jeet Adani, who is the vice president at Adani Enterprises, said that it’s very important now to make India stronger in undersea defence. He shared, “In an increasingly volatile maritime environment, strengthening India’s undersea warfare capabilities is not merely a strategic priority but an imperative for safeguarding sovereignty and national interests. The Indian Navy requires integrated, mission-ready ISR and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, including critical systems like sonobuoys that are indigenously developed, swiftly deployable, and globally competitive.”

His words show how serious the need is to build these technologies in India, especially when threats in the sea are rising. Ashish Rajvanshi, who leads Adani Defence & Aerospace, said India has been buying such tech from other countries for years.

He said, “For decades, India has been dependent on imports for such critical technology. This partnership to bring world-class sonobuoy technology and integrate it with India’s defence ecosystem is a step towards building self-reliant capabilities in this critical domain.”

He believes this tie-up with Sparton is a step forward to reduce that dependence and help India create its own defence tools. Donnelly Bohan, the CEO and president of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, also shared his excitement about this collaboration.

He said, “Sparton has a long legacy of problem solving, advanced engineering and manufacturing of America’s best maritime defence solutions. We are proud to partner with Adani Defence & Aerospace to bring our proven anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies to India. This partnership will enable us to localise assemblage, create high-technology skill sets, and deliver reliable ASW solutions tailored to the Indian Navy’s needs.”

He made it clear that this is not just about business it’s also about building skills and giving India tech that works well in real missions.
