UAV Drone Crashes in Rudraprayag: A UAV used for training work crashed near the Kakodakhal-Bijrakot motor road in the Sari area of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand on Thursday afternoon. The crash caused panic for a short time because people first thought it could be a helicopter accident. Later, the object was identified as a drone, and there were no reports of any injury or death.

The site is around 7 to 8 kilometres uphill from Sari village, and officials moved to the spot soon after getting the alert. The local report also says the drone is believed to be the indigenous Shikra target drone made by Anadrone Systems, which is designed for defence drills and testing work.

What did the officials say?
The administration got the first call at 2:36 pm. People in the area told officials that a flying object had come down in the hills near Bijrakot. Teams from the district administration and disaster management department then started checking what had happened. The damaged drone drew attention from villagers because it fell in a remote but visible place. Officials and related agencies reached the site and started looking into the matter.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said, “Initially, there were apprehensions that a helicopter might have crashed, but information from local villagers and regional sources clarified that the crashed object was a drone. There are no reports of casualties resulting from the incident,” Nandan Singh Rajwar, District Disaster Management Officer said.

What is Shikra?
Shikra is a high-speed target drone made for defence training. Anadrone’s official page says it is a “versatile high-speed aerial target system” used for defence drills and testing. In simple words, it is not made for carrying people. It is used to help test weapons and train defence teams by acting like a flying target.
The crash is now being checked by the relevant agencies. The early guess is that some technical problem, a control system fault, or another similar issue may have caused it. .
