ISRO 40-storey rocket: India’s space agency ISRO has started working on its biggest and boldest rocket till now. This new heavy launcher will be as tall as a 40-floor building and it can carry a huge load, almost 75,000kgs, into low Earth orbit. This is a very big step forward because the earlier rockets of ISRO could carry only a much smaller weight.
From small rockets to the biggest one yet
The announcement came from ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan when he spoke at Osmania University in Hyderabad during a convocation program. He explained that this new rocket shows how far India has reached in space science.
He reminded people that in the early days, when Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam worked on the very first ISRO rocket, it could lift only about 35 kilograms to space and its full mass was just 17 tonnes. Now the agency is building something that will lift 75,000 kilograms, which will make it the most powerful space vehicle ever made by ISRO, reported Hindustan Times.

Narayanan also shared details about what is coming next for the agency. He said ISRO will soon launch the NAVIC satellite, which is India’s own navigation system, and also the new N1 rocket. Later this year, ISRO will launch a communication satellite that weighs 6,500 kilograms for the United States. There are also two important satellites waiting to fly soon:
- The Technology Demonstration Satellite
- GSAT-7R-which will serve the Indian Navy

Bigger plans for the future
India right now has 55 satellites in space that it uses for many different purposes. But Narayanan said this number will grow very fast and within three to four years, it may even triple. This means India could have more than 150 satellites in orbit in just a short time. With the new giant rocket coming and so many new satellites planned, ISRO is preparing to take a much bigger role in the global space race.
