Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways official Mukesh Mangal said, “The vessel has 20 Indian seafarers on board, and all of them are reported to be safe.” He also said, “No casualties or injuries have been reported,” while the ship was being watched closely by Indian officials and other agencies. India’s embassy in Muscat said it was keeping in touch with local authorities as details came in.
MEA raises strong protest
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had already protested strongly after the attack on the Palau-flagged ship MT Settebello. He said, “These attacks must cease and end,” and also spoke about the need for “dialogue and diplomacy.” In the same briefing, Indian officials said the ships involved in these incidents were foreign-flagged and not Indian-owned. They said the cases were linked to rising tension in the region and called the attacks very worrying.

Three Indian seafarers died in the earlier attack
The bigger shock came from the earlier attack on MT Settebello near the Strait of Hormuz. Indian officials said three Indian seafarers were killed there. Reuters reported that the U.S. military said it had carried out a precision strike on the vessel, while India said it had summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires in New Delhi to show its deep concern.
The Omani Navy rescued 21 other crew members after the ship sent out a distress call. Indian authorities said the safety of seafarers is the main concern now, and they want such attacks to stop.
