Made in India Airbus C295: The first Airbus C295 military transport aircraft made in India has now finished its first test flight from the Final Assembly Line in Vadodara, Gujarat. This is a big step for India’s aviation and defence work. Airbus Defence and Space said the flight is part of the normal testing done before the aircraft can be handed over. The company also said the Indian Air Force, the Ministry of Defence and the Government of India have placed strong trust in the programme.

Airbus Defence and Space said “We thank the Indian Air Force, Ministry of Defence and Government of India, for their unwavering trust in us.
“The achievement reinforces India’s growing aerospace capabilities and underscores the Indian Air Force commitment to fostering indigenous defence capability under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
The Indian Air Force used the same line while reacting to the milestone. This flight comes after the aircraft was built at the Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus facility in Vadodara. The work work on the India-made C295 programme has been moving ahead for months.
India’s defence plan
The C295 project is part of a larger order for 56 aircraft. Under the deal signed in 2021, 16 aircraft are to come from Airbus in fly-away condition from Seville, Spain. The remaining 40 are to be made in India with Tata Advanced Systems.

The aircraft are meant to replace the Indian Air Force’s old Avro fleet. Airbus had earlier said the first India-made C295 would roll out from Vadodara in September 2026, and the company expects the Indian-built line to deliver 40 aircraft to the Air Force over time.
What can the Aircraft can do?
The Airbus C295 is a tactical transport plane built for many jobs. It can carry troops and cargo. It can also be used for maritime patrol, surveillance, armed support, medical evacuation, VIP transport and firefighting.
The aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines. Airbus says it can carry up to eight tonnes of payload or as many as 70 troops. It can also fly at a maximum cruise speed of 260 knots. Airbus also says C295 operators around the world have logged more than 600,000 flight hours in many kinds of conditions.
